RE: Remote desktop monitoring

Hello Steve,

Thank you for posting here. Let's also thank Dave for the input.

According to your description, I understand that you want to monitor SBS
and XP clients from a workstation. If I have misunderstood the problem,
please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, the SBS terminal service works in Administration Mode
by default. You can only logon 2 sessions at same time from remote. This is
by design. As you said, you can only logon one session at a time, there
must be another session on the SBS. You can check the terminal sessions
thru the following method:

1. Please extend Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Terminal
Services Manager

2. Under the Users tab in right panel, you will see all sessions connect to
SBS right now.

3. If the session is not necessary now, you can reset it: Right click the
session name, select Reset command.

Meanwhile, we can connect SBS thru session mode and console mode from
remote. If there are 2 sessions on SBS now, we still can use the console
mode to remote logon the SBS to monitor the server. To use console mode
terminal services, I suggest we try the following steps:

1. On one workstation, run command "mstsc /console" to open the console
mode RPC window

2. Input the SBS internal NIC IP or SBS hostname, click Connect

3. Input SBS domain admin user name and password.

4. Then, you can remote logon the SBS thru console mode.

After we logon SBS remote, we can open Server Management console on SBS,
locate on Client Computers node, to monitor XP clients:

There are many useful links in right panel, you can use them to monitor the
clients: View Event logs, Manage Computer, Offer Remote Assistance, Connect
to Computer via Terminal Services, etc.

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me what detail information you want to monitor on SBS and XP clients.

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Does anyone know if SBS/XP can be configured to allow a workstation to be
| monitored? When I connect to it using SBS's built-in terminal services
that
| logs off the current user, I suspect it only allows one user to be
connected
| at a time. We have a rogue user who has been poking around a bit and I
| would like to monitor their activity for a while.
|
| Thanks,
| Steve
