Beck Mongolian Chop Squad, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Problem with this question is that a lot of now-classic anime are set
in the years to come, but their view of the future was formed ten to
20 years ago:
Akira (set in 2019, which is getting closer all the time)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (what year is this set in? 2014?)
Serial Experiments Lain
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040

And an odd one, because it's kind of timeless: His and Her
Circumstances
